Famous Movie Scenes 4
Today's clip is yet another clip from my current film theory class - somehow posting these clips helps me study since I have to know about them anyway for my test that I am taking in about 8 hours from now. This exact sequence is one we watched in week 1 of Film Theory at VFS (that's Vancouver Film School). We were shown this clip to watch composition, color, light and size of the image.
There are three makes of "A Star is Born" (the first was made in the 30's, the second stars Judy Garland and was made in 1954, and the third, with Barbara Streisand was made in 1976...) And apparently there is a fourth one due out in 2012 starring Beyonce! I may have to watch the first three and then go see that.
Admittedly I know about them, know the music, but have never actually seen any of them. I think it might make a fun marathon to watch all 3 and compare and contrast (gosh, I'm a dork!)
But here is the Judy Garland version which was screened in class....
For any Gilmore Girl fans out there (mellyboo!) this was the same scene that Lorelai was watching in Season 5 during her (first) break-up with Luke and while she is watching this part of the movie in her house, Luke shows up at her door at the very end of the episode and they kiss and that's how they get back together.

Famous Movie Scenes 3
So this is the third time I have studied this sequence on an academic basis. This is from a film from the 1920's silent era called "Battleship Potemkin" by Sergei Eisenstein. I watched it twice in university while doing my film studies degree and am watching it again for my current film theory course. The most well-known sequence from this film (The Odessa Steps), although I hated many parts of "Battleship" in university - I recall it being the parts on the ship with the rotting and maggots - very depressing but effective as many films from the 20's are.
Anyway, this sequence is used to demonstrate "juxtaposition" - I'm pretty sure this scene has appeared in some of my dreams. The part I remember most from the first time I saw this was the baby carriage.

Famous Movie Scenes 2
I picked this sequence because it also happens to be one of the clips we watched in my film theory class when we were looking at composition, and let's face it, it's probably the most significant scene in "American Beauty." And awesome.

Famous Movie Scenes 1
I am picking my first of well-known film scenes. Today, I have selected the famous shower scene in Alfred Hitcock's "Psycho"
Rumour has it that Janet Leigh had a hard time taking showers after shooting this film.
